该片是著名京剧表演艺术家盖叫天主演的六个优秀剧目组成。
《白水滩》：
青面虎许起英行侠好义，因触犯官府，被官兵追捕。一天，许起英酒后醉卧，为官兵捕获，解送京师，在白水滩为其妹佩珠率众救出，兄妹乃合力追杀官兵。适逢义士穆玉玑路过，他见许起英人多力强，不问情由，协助官兵打退许起英兄妹。不料官兵竟反诬穆玉玑为许起英同伙，逮捕问成死罪。处斩之日，许起英不计前仇，劫法场救之。
《七雄聚义》：
北宋时，大明府贪官梁中书，收买十万金珠、宝贝，编成“生辰纲”，命杨志押送京师，为岳父、当朝太师蔡京上寿。赤发鬼刘唐得悉，奔告郓城东溪村保正晁盖，计议拦劫。晁盖约请吴用及阮小二兄弟和公孙胜、白胜等人，乔装枣贩，在黄泥冈用蒙汗药醉倒杨志等人，劫取了不义之财“生辰纲”。
